THE BLOUNT COUNTY AMATEUR RADIO CLUB, founded in 1987, is a general interest radio club having over 60 members. Membership is concentrated in Blount County and the immediately surrounding area. CLUB MEETINGS are held on the third Saturday of every month at 6 PM in the Emergency Management Agency (EMA) office located in the basement of the courthouse in Oneonta. EATING MEETINGS are held on various occasions the at various local restaurants rather than at the EMA office. Family, Friends, and anyone with an interest in fellowship and food are invited to attend.

SERVICE ACTIVITIES include SkyWarn storm spotter nets activated anytime severe weather threatens the Blount County area and Disaster Emergency Communications that may be required by the Blount County Emergency Management Agency.  Weekly training nets to prepare amateurs for Emergency Communication are held each Sunday evening at 9 PM on the club's 146.700- 2 meter repeater.  Remember, the PL TONE is 203.5.

OTHER ACTIVITIES include participation in Field Day, which is the American Radio Relay League's annual communications exercise, held on the 4th full weekend in June. Swapmeet, an Amateur Radio flea market and social gathering, affectinately referred to as FREEZEFEST, in January. Repeater station maintenance on a station equiped with a phone patch serving Blount County amateurs. VOLUNTEER EXAMINERS certified by the American Radio Relay League, administer periodic license examinations. Resulting licenses and upgrades are issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Testing sessions are held on the 3rd Saturday of every other month (beginning January ) at 4:00 PM in the EMA office at the courthouse in Oneonta.
